CARE in the Community: Jane Delgado

Jane Delgado, a graphic designer at our corporate office in Tampa, is our Volunteer of the Month! Jane has dedicated more than nine years to Greystone, and has remained just as loyal to serving those less fortunate. Both a valuable asset to our organization and the Tampa Bay community, we couldn’t be more proud to have Jane in our Greystone family!
Q: What was the first place you ever volunteered at, what was your first impression?
A: I can’t remember exactly. I think my earliest memory of helping others in need was assisting my mom and older sister as a small child to pack up our clothes that we had outgrown to donate to the Salvation Army.
Q: What is your favorite memory of volunteering so far?
A: One of my most memorable volunteering experiences was volunteering at an assisted living facility when I was in high school. We helped the residents create handmade Valentine’s Day cards—as a creative person, that project was right up my alley. The conversations and stories that the residents shared with me that day made it one of my most memorable volunteering experiences. The residents were so appreciative of us spending time with them.
Q: Favorite place to volunteer and why?
A: I love volunteering at Feeding America because they really need the help. They get tons of food donations but their biggest obstacle is getting the food from the distribution center to the people who need it in the Tampa area. They rely on volunteers to pack and deliver food so that the people who need it have access to it.
Q: How did you get introduced to volunteering?
A: I was introduced to volunteering through my school and church when I was growing up.
Q: How many years have you been volunteering?
A: I have been volunteering for almost 20 years now.
Q: What advice would you give to someone that wants to start volunteering?
A: Join a local organization that promotes volunteering. I do the majority of my volunteering through the Junior League of Tampa. They always have community projects going on where volunteers are needed.
Q: What is your motivation to continue to volunteer?
A: I want to help others who are in need in my community. I also want to set a good example for my children and show them how rewarding volunteering can be.
Q: If you could start your own nonprofit organization what would it be, and why?
A: I wouldn’t start my own non-profit, but I have told my husband that if we ever win the lottery, then I will dedicate my days to volunteering full-time through the Junior League of Tampa.
Way to go, Jane!
